Experiments involving chili peppers (
Capsicum annuum) and fennel plants (
Foeniculum vulgare) show the peppers sprout more quickly around the fennel even when enclosed in an airtight box preventing chemical transfer, suggesting an as-yet
unknown sense may exist between plants to facilitate communication.
