Cold Layer Around Venus

The European Space Agency's Venus Express has discovered an unexpected cold layer in Venus' atmosphere 77 miles above the planet's surface with temperatures reaching −283°F, much colder than anything in Earth's atmosphere and able to form carbon dioxide ice.

Venus Spinning Slower

According to data from the ESA's Venus Express orbiter, the planet Venus is rotating 6.5 minutes slower than it was 16 years ago when it was measured by NASA's Magellan mission, with planetary scientists unable to explain the cause of this difference.

Ozone Layer on Venus

The ESA's Venus Express spacecraft has discovered a thin ozone layer about 100 km above the surface of Venus at concentrations of no more than 1% that found on Earth, leading scientists to believe that merely the presence of such a layer is not sufficient to suggest evidence of prior life on a planet.
